Care home websites / Cost and value

What could a better website be worth?

A quality website is an investment in how families discover, understand and contact your care home. Here’s how to weigh the cost against the practical benefits — using your own figures, not promises.

Clear costs. Realistic assumptions. A decision built around your home.

A fair comparison

Three situations.
Different trade-offs.

Homes can succeed through strong referrals and local relationships. A good website adds a place where families can check the details and decide whether to get in touch.

What changes when your website becomes a useful part of the family’s journey?
ConsiderationNo websiteA poor websiteA quality website
Direct website costNo website build or running cost. Other marketing and staff time may still be needed.Existing hosting, maintenance or agency costs may continue even if the site is not useful.A defined build cost, plus suitable hosting and ongoing upkeep. Scope should be agreed before payment.
Understanding your homeFamilies rely more on referrals, directories, telephone calls and visits for information.Outdated content, limited photographs or unclear services can make the home harder to understand.Current, approved information helps families explore your services, setting and approach before enquiring.
Taking the next stepContact details may be available elsewhere, but you have less control over that journey.Unclear navigation, difficult mobile layouts or unreliable forms can create avoidable friction.Clear telephone, enquiry and visit pathways make the next action easier to find.
Team workloadThe team may need to explain basic information individually more often.Missing or contradictory information can generate extra questions or corrections.Useful pages give staff a consistent reference to share. Any time saved should be measured.
Commercial potentialExisting referral channels may be sufficient for your home’s demand and capacity. There may be an opportunity to improve the experience, but a redesign needs a clear reason.A stronger enquiry experience can support admissions work. Local demand, suitability, staffing and follow-up still matter.

Website quality does not establish care quality. Families should consider care needs, inspection information, conversations and visits when choosing a home.

The practical benefits

Better information.
A clearer next step.

The useful improvements are specific: explain the home clearly, help families find what they need and make it straightforward to contact the right person.

01 / Clarity

Help families understand the fit

Explain the care you provide, facilities, daily life and enquiry process with accurate descriptions and approved imagery. Families can arrive at a conversation better informed.

02 / Confidence

Present a considered first impression

A well-maintained website can reflect the care taken over your public information. Clear contact details, current content and relevant inspection links help people check what matters.

03 / Enquiries

Remove avoidable obstacles

Readable mobile pages, sensible navigation and tested enquiry routes help interested families act. A website cannot create suitable vacancies or replace timely, helpful follow-up.

04 / Team support

Make information easier to share

Give your team useful pages to send after a call or recommendation. Clear information may reduce repeated basic questions, while leaving personal care discussions to your staff.

Search visibility also depends on competition, content, local relevance and ongoing work. A new website alone does not guarantee rankings, enquiries or occupancy.

Include the costs that belong to your project

Allow for any domain fees, new photography, image licensing, additional copywriting or content work, migration, extra pages, integrations and internal staff time. Ongoing SEO, marketing and advertising are separate unless expressly included in your agreed scope. If you manage the site independently, budget for suitable hosting, security, backups and updates.

Website-only ownership transfers on full payment; your domain remains yours. Growth plans are ongoing programmes with separate contractual and ownership terms, rather than one-off website purchases. Check the full proposal and published package terms before committing.

Use your own figures

What could a better
website be worth?

Explore a first-year scenario. The example figures are editable assumptions, not care-sector averages or predicted results.

01 / Your website investment
Published package prices exclude VAT. You can edit every cost below.
Your agreed project cost, before any VAT added separately below.
£79 is optional Website Care, excluding VAT. Replace it with your chosen hosting and upkeep budget.
For example, domain, photography, additional content or your team's project time. Avoid counting monthly costs twice.
Enter the first-year amount applicable to your costs. Ask your accountant if unsure. Leave at zero only if appropriate.
02 / Your occupancy scenario
Weekly care income minus the extra cost of delivering that care, including additional staffing. Use your own cost data.
Across the next 12 months: one bed occupied for 12 extra weeks, or two beds for six each. Count only weeks above your existing baseline.

Only model suitable care you can safely provide with available capacity. A website does not create demand or replace your admissions team.

Read the numbers properly

Useful arithmetic.
Grounded in your home.

The calculator explores a scenario. It cannot forecast how many suitable enquiries or admissions a new website will generate.

Use contribution, rather than the full care fee

Your weekly fee is income. An occupied place also brings care-delivery costs, which can include additional staffing, food, laundry and consumables. Enter the amount left after those additional costs, using figures appropriate to your home. Contribution is before other fixed overheads and tax; it is not accounting profit.

Count only genuinely additional occupied weeks

One resident-week means one resident occupying a place for one week. Twelve additional resident-weeks might mean one vacancy filled twelve weeks sooner, or several smaller reductions across available places. Count only the improvement compared with what would otherwise have happened. Avoid counting every admission after launch as a website result.

Check the operational reality

Care suitability, available capacity, safe staffing, local demand, fees, referrals and how your team responds all affect admissions. Additional care requirements may change your costs. Replace the illustrative assumptions with your own figures and include all website costs you expect to incur.

The calculator uses the full new-site cost. It does not deduct existing website expenses you may stop paying or assign a cash value to staff time saved. Include unrecoverable VAT in the relevant input and confirm your treatment with your accountant.

Measure what changes

A better website.
Evidence over time.

Agree what you want to improve before launch, then review the same measures afterwards. Useful decisions need context as well as totals.

  1. Record your starting point

Note available places, enquiry sources, suitable enquiries, booked visits and admissions over a meaningful period.

  2. Check the family’s next step

Test telephone links and forms, confirm who receives enquiries and review how promptly the team responds.

  3. Follow appropriate outcomes

Review suitable enquiries, visits, admissions and additional occupied resident-weeks, rather than assuming website visits have commercial value on their own.

  4. Review the wider picture

Consider seasonality, changes in availability, staffing, fees, referral activity and other marketing. These can affect results alongside the website.

Helpful context

One part of
a careful decision.

Families need more than an attractive website when choosing care. NHS guidance covers researching homes, looking at their websites and visiting in person. CQC provides inspection information to help people understand and compare services.

Your website can help present accurate information and guide families towards the next conversation. It should support their wider research, with care needs and suitability at the centre.

These sources explain care-choice information. They do not substantiate a particular financial return from a website.

The useful questions

A considered investment.
Clear answers.

Start with the needs of your home, the information families need and the practical improvements you can measure.

When is improving a website worth considering?

Consider it when families struggle to understand your services, the mobile experience is difficult, information is outdated or enquiry routes are unclear. A redesign should address a specific problem. If your current site already serves families well and suitable demand meets your capacity, focused improvements or routine upkeep may be the more proportionate choice.

Will a new website guarantee more enquiries or admissions?

No. A clearer website can support the enquiry journey, but results also depend on local demand, care suitability, available places, staffing, fees, referrals and follow-up. The calculator shows the effect of assumptions you enter; it does not predict or guarantee those outcomes.

Does a poor website mean a care home provides poor care?

No. Website quality and care quality are different things. An excellent care team may have an outdated website, while an attractive website does not establish the quality or suitability of a service. Families should consider care needs, inspection information, conversations and visits.

Why use contribution instead of the full weekly care fee?

The care fee is income, while caring for an additional resident creates delivery costs. Contribution is what remains after those additional costs, before other fixed overheads and tax. Using the full fee would overstate the amount available to cover a website investment. Use home-specific figures that include any additional staffing and care-delivery requirements.

Do we have to pay a monthly website fee?

Our website-only packages have no compulsory Website Care subscription. Optional Website Care is £79 per month excluding VAT. If you manage your website independently, suitable hosting and upkeep still need to be arranged and budgeted for. Growth plans are ongoing services with separate contractual and ownership terms. See pricing and package terms for the full choices.

How should we measure whether the improvement helped?

Record a baseline, then review enquiry sources, suitable enquiries, visits, admissions and additional occupied weeks. Check the enquiry routes and your response process too. Compare periods with similar context where possible and consider changes in availability, staffing, fees, referrals, seasonality and other marketing. Avoid attributing every change to the website.
